Life Perseveres is a powerful artwork showcasing a memorable story of Aleppo Citadel and it's people's will to survive in the face of despair. Not only is this a depiction of a historic landmark, it's also the heart and central landmark of the city and a representation of the people who lived in Aleppo.

Despite enduring 2 direct bombings, the citadel continues to stand today as a symbol of hope for the civilians of Syria. The flags of civilian protestors hang from inside a semi-restored citadel's courtyard. The sky, a screaming hue of red and orange sets the atmosphere of passion and an undying spirit that presses back against a violent dictator's rule in the hope of a better life.

As though a page was torn away, a second image is showcased beneath the citadel. Delving beneath the surface, we see a young woman who is bearing new life. A symbol of new beginnings and of hope. Portrayed using beautiful pastel, rich charcoal and graphite to create depth and to show emotion. The artist effortlessly captures hope and anger simultaneously in this masterful union of impressionist and expressionist art styles.

This artwork comes printed in border-less format on beautiful matte paper. In your choice of 4 standard frame sizes, A4, A3 & A2. Each print is hand-signed by the artist to ensure it's uniqueness.

Ayla Fowles

Background

Born in Syria shortly before the civil war, Ayla experienced first-hand the suffering and injustice caused by her government. Then living in Saudi, she lived under radical religious law. As a result she spent her teenage years locked in her room as she desperately sought any freedom she could find, which she found that through art. Art was her form of expression and as the years went by, she practiced and practiced while she waited for an opportunity.

She now gets to tell the story of her youth with the hope that she can show you how good things can come from bad situations, and to bring awareness to things she finds dear to her (or things that she thinks are really cool).

Art Forms
