A 3d Voxel Visualisation of Conway's game of life on a single 3d plane. It's a zero-player automaton based on a mathematical model of a system where the future state is determined by its current state and a couple of simple rules.
Each cell is determined to be alive or dead depending on the number of alive neighboring cells immediately next to it on the x and y axis of the grid. The cell passes through time continuing to be alive as long as it has 2 or 3 neighboring cells alive, and it dies from either loneliness (when it has 1 or less alive neighboring cells), or over crowding (3 or more alive neighboring cells).
In this representation, the continuous survival of a cell is shown by the cell growing higher
(along the z axis), the higher it grows the longer it has survived through time (having 2 or 3 alive neighboring cells continuously).
